But from this forum, it does sound like it could be the subwoofer. Not sure if this thing is an amplifier (doesn't seem like the sound system would need an amplifier that big), computer circuitry, or subwoofer. I studied the box, and it appears to be held in place by a single screw, with only a small set of wires connected by a single coupling. But there is this large box there with Sony 700 or something written on it. You do NOT need an amp, as the existing system has one for the speakers. I have the 700W system, and swapped out all four speakers with Alpines (components front, coaxials rear). That's where we planned to put the dog-with the seat flipped up-when our family of four (9-year old twin boys, wife and me-plus 100 lb Lab) takes long trips. ianinedm is correct - they're made by Ford, but say Sony. I'll make this story short by saying that I was very surprised to find this Sony box under the single-seat flip-up in the back (passenger side). After learning about the 2011 F-150s and the various features from the Ford website, I went to the dealer to check out the models first hand and quickly decided that I wanted a pretty feature-rich Platinum-with the Sony sound system (along with the navigation upgrade.). I actually take delivery of my new 2011 Platinum tomorrow. You may have started to answer a question I was having. ![]()
